The rules
Terms of use
What you agree to when you use HitMarker.
Last updated 6 August 2026
HitMarker is a noticeboard for the South African airsoft community. We connect buyers with sellers, players with game days, and people with teams. We are not a shop, HitMarker does not hold stock, and also never handles your money. Using the site means you accept what follows.
1.Your account
- Give accurate details. Your username, display name and WhatsApp number are how other people identify and reach you.
- One person, one account. Do not create accounts to evade a removal or a block.
- You are responsible for what happens under your account. Keep your password to yourself.
- You can delete your account at any time from your profile settings.
2.Listings and content
You keep ownership of everything you post. By posting it you give us permission to display it on HitMarker and in link previews when someone shares your listing elsewhere.
What you post must be accurate and yours to sell:
- Describe the item honestly — condition, muzzle velocity, faults, what is included.
- Use your own photos of the actual item. Stock images of gear you do not have are not acceptable.
- Do not list anything on the prohibited items list.
- Do not list an item you do not own or are not legally allowed to sell.
See the prohibited items policy for what may not be listed.
3.We do not take part in your deal
Contact happens on WhatsApp, directly between you and the other person. We never handle payments, we do not hold funds in escrow, we do not ship anything, and we do not inspect or verify items before they are listed.
That means the deal is entirely between buyer and seller. Meet in a public place, inspect before you pay, and be careful with deposits and EFTs to people you have not met. If something goes wrong in a transaction, we can remove a listing and act on an account, but we cannot recover your money.
4.Behaviour
Do not use HitMarker to:
- Scam, defraud or mislead anyone.
- Harass, threaten or abuse another user.
- Scrape, bulk-download or resell data from the site.
- Post spam, or the same item over and over to stay at the top of the list.
- Break South African law.
5.Moderation
Anyone can report a listing. We review reports and may hide or remove a listing, an event, a group or an account — with or without notice — where we believe these terms have been broken. We aim to be proportionate: a first miscategorised listing gets fixed, a scam gets removed.
If we act on something of yours and you think we got it wrong, reply to us and we will look again.
6.Your information
We collect what the site needs to work: your email, username, display name, province, and — if you publish a listing or an event — your WhatsApp number. We process it under the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA).
- Your WhatsApp number is only revealed when a signed-in user taps the contact button on your listing or event. It is not shown on the page.
- We log that a contact click happened, so we can build seller reputation and spot abuse. We do not read or store your messages — they happen on WhatsApp, not here.
- We do not sell your personal information.
- You can view, correct or delete your details from your profile settings.
7.The site is provided as-is
HitMarker is a small, self-funded community project. We do not promise the site will be available without interruption, that listings are accurate, or that other users are who they say they are. To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for any loss arising from your use of the site or from a deal you arrange through it.
Nothing here limits any right you have under the Consumer Protection Act that cannot be limited by agreement.
8.Changes
We may update these terms as the platform grows. The date at the top of this page tells you when it last changed. If a change is significant we will say so on the site before it takes effect. Continuing to use HitMarker after a change means you accept it.
9.Governing law
These terms are governed by the law of the Republic of South Africa, and the South African courts have jurisdiction over any dispute.
